PGP signing at NORDUnet'98

There will be a PGP Key signing party at the NORDUNET'98 conference in Tromsų.

When:
14.00 on Tuesday June 30th, 1998, after the official closing.
Where:
Lillescena

The procedure we will use is the following:

People who wish to participate should email an ASCII extract of their PGP public key to <ulla@stupi.se> (pgp -kxa); as soon as possibly but no later than by noon (11.00) at the same Tuesday. Please include a subject line "NORDUnet PGP Key".

After the conference, on Thursday, a complete key will be available with all of the keys that were submitted. It will be available on the address

http://www.stupi.se/pgp/sign/980630.asc

At 14.00, come prepared with the PGP Key fingerprint of your PGP public key (pgp -kvc); we will provide handouts with all of the key fingerprints of the keys that people have mailed in. You should also bring valid ID so that your identity can be verified in case that is needed.

The fingerprints on the handout will look like this:

Type Bits/KeyID Date User ID
pub 1024/ED2354B9 1995/04/05 Ulla Sandberg <ulla@stupi.se>
            Key fingerprint = 21 18 0C C5 83 80 28 96 5F 28 0C 26 79 CE 48 A5

In turn, participants will stand up, identify themselves, and read off their key fingerprint, so everyone can verify the fingerprints on the handout.

Later that evening, or when you get home, you can sign the keys corresponding to the fingerprints which you were able to verify on the handout; note that it is advisable that you only sign keys of people when you have personal knowledge that the person who stood up and read the fingerprint really is the person which he/she claimed to be.

Submit the keys you have signed to any PGP keyserver or email the key owner.

Note that you don't have a laptop with you; if you don't have any locally trusted computing resources during the key signing party, you can make notes on the handout, and then take the handout home and sign the keys later.
